Explicit memory can be even further divided into two subcategories: episodic and semantic. When we remember certain episodes of our life, that is episodic memory. With episodic memory, we remember what we were feeling at the time along with why the events were taking place. Semantic memories are memories of facts or details about the world around us. "Dogs have four legs" and "Jim hates strawberries" are both semantic memories.
When learning, we use both episodic and semantic memory. However, it seems that many people tend to use one more than the other. Do you use semantic memory to learn more often, or do you use episodic memory to learn more often?
